‘Guardians of The Galaxy/The Walking Dead’s Michael Rooker and ‘Don Quixote’s Joana Ribeiro Reportedly Join Amazon’s ‘The Dark Tower’ As Filming Is Underway

Amazon’s The Dark Tower pilot has begun filming according to a new report from Deadline as they also have added two other cast members with veteran character actor Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead, Guardians of The Galaxy) and Portuguese actress Joana Ribeiro most notable to English audiences from her work on Terry Gilliam’s long-delayed Don Quixote.

The Walking Dead alum Michael Rooker has been tapped to co-star opposite Sam Strike and Jasper Pääkkönen in Amazon’s pilot The Dark Tower, an adaptation of Stephen King’s book, which has started production.

The Dark Tower TV series, from executive producer/showrunner Glen Mazzara and MRC, is independent from the 2017 film and is meant to be a more faithful retelling of the book than the movie was. I hear it takes place many years before the events depicted in the feature and will focus on the origin story of Roland Deschain’s (Strike) – how he first became a gunslinger and got his guns, his first conflict with the man in black (Pääkkönen), his first love and his first mission as a gunslinger.

Sam Strike (Nightflyers) is set to play a younger version of gunslinger Roland Deschain and Jasper Pääkkönen (Vikings) as the man in black. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Game of Thrones star Jerome Flynn also recently joined the pilot’s cast in an undisclosed role.

It’ll be interesting to see how the series will differ from the failed feature film adaptation, which seemingly already will have a younger incarnation of Roland as the lead.
