After years of speculation and rumors on potetial sequels and remakes, we are finally getting a new take on the classic Gremlins.

According to Variety, A Gremlins animated series is in development for WarnerMedia’s as-yet-unnamed upcoming streaming service.

Based on the hit 1980s film franchise by writer Chris Columbus and director Joe Dante, this new Gremlins series is said to be a prequel period piece that will reportedly focus on Mr. Wing, the character who owned Gizmo at the beginning of the first film, when he was a young man, living with the Mogwai.

Tze Chun is attached to write and executive produce the project. Chun has written several episodes of Fox’s hit series Gotham and directed the cult films Cold Comes the Night and Children of Invention.

The series will be produced by Warner Bros. Television and Amblin Television.
