Eiza Gonzalez might be one of the hardest working actresses out there. She’s been furiously adding action credits to her belt with Baby Driver, Alita: Battle Angel, Bloodshot, and recently taking a role in Legendary’s Godzilla vs Kong.
Variety now reports that she has joined the Fast and Furious franchise taking a key role in Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s spin-off Hobbs and Shaw.
“Baby Driver” star Eiza Gonzalez has joined the ensemble of Universal’s “Fast and Furious” spinoff “Hobbs and Shaw” starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.
The role was a last-minute addition, and sources say execs loved Gonzalez but scheduling had to be worked out with Legendary’s “Godzilla vs. Kong,” which is also about to begin shooting.
It seems like they’ve worked her shooting schedule with Legendary, as she was recently spotted in Hawaii filming scenes for Godzilla vs Kong. The Hobbs and Shaw production is expected to move the shoot from London to Hawaii, giving Eiza an opportunity to film both films.
The film directed by David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde) also has Idris Elba as the film’s villain and Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible – Fallout) playing Statham’s sister Hattie Shaw.
There has been some controversy over the spin-off as franchise producer Neal Moritz has been suing Universal over profit participation concerning Hobbs and Shaw. He has claimed in retaliation, Universal removed him completely from Fast and Furious 9 which will begin filming in early April.
Universal Pictures has set the release date for Hobbs and Shaw on August 2nd, 2019.
