It looks like we have yet another impressive addition the cast of Chloe Zhao’s new Marvel Studios franchise The Eternals, as TheWrap reports that Game of Thrones actor Richard Madden has landed an unnamed leading role in the new comic book film alongside Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, and South Korean actor Ma Dong-Seok (Train To Busan).
“Game of Thrones” and “Bodyguard” star Richard Madden is in talks to star opposite Angelina Jolie and Kumail Nanjiani in Marvel’s “The Eternals,” which focuses on a group of ancient human beings, an individual with knowledge of the project exclusively told TheWrap. Details about Madden’s character is being kept under wraps.
Variety‘s Justin Kroll adds that the role as we suspected is Ikaris, one of the key members of the team and in the original run of Jack Kirby comic books was the main protagonist.
Madden will be playing Ikaris, a member of the human offshoot race known as the Eternals.
Filming on The Eternals begins this September in London, England with an expected release date of November 6th, 2020. Marvel Studios has yet to even officially acknowledge the film with a single press release or the cast that is slowly gathering before the fall shoot, so that release date isn’t exactly official but very likely.
Madden has been on a career-high lately as his Netflix series The Bodyguard impressed people enough that he shot-up to the top of fan wishlists to play the next incarnation of James Bond (some even for Batman as well) once Daniel Craig retires after Bond 25 releases. He certainly has been poised to land a big franchise role and it looks like Marvel nabbed him first.
Richard’s next film will be Paramount’s Elton John biopic Rocketman co-starring with Kingsman lead Taron Edgerton which releases on May 31st.
