20th Century Fox has officially announced a new cast member for their Avatar sequels from the film franchise’s Twitter account as Aussie actor Brendan Cowell will play Captain Mick Scoresby in the films, how many movies is a little uncertain as James Cameron is juggling a lot of the films at once. Brendan might be best known for a small role in Game of Thrones.
Capt. Scoresby is the captain of a large-scale marine hunting vessel on Pandora. We knew that the sequels would focus on the oceans of Pandora and I think we just some confirmation of that with this casting addition and character description. It’s interesting to see that we’ll be getting a new military force likely to take back the planet on behalf of RDA. The marine stuff was some of the most interesting elements from the first film for myself was a little disappointed we didn’t get to see a lot of that outside of the battle scenes and the opening scenes of Jake arriving on Pandora.

Deadline adds that filming in New Zealand will begin this May.
We expect that production will take place at Stone Street Studios in Wellington, New Zealand, where the original Avatar film shot its live-action sequences.
Brendan will join Kate Winslet, Sam Worthington, Cliff Curtis, Zoe Salanda, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Oona Chaplin, and recent addition Edie Falco (Sopranos, Nurse Jackie) who plays General Ardmore.
Avatar 2 is set for release on December 18th, 2020 but it remains to be seen if Disney will bump the movie as they now control release dates of movies from 20th Century Fox.
