On The Twilight Zone red carpet, Variety was able to catch up with X-Men franchise producer and Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg, where he was asked if Gambit was still happening. You might remember that once the Disney-Fox merger completed Disney took control of all the rights and assets, giving them oversight over any future film projects.
Kinberg revealed it’s not only Marvel movies that are being looked at by Disney but all of the Fox movies in development.
VARIETY: What’s going on with Gambit?
KINBERG: “The latest is we’ll see, like honestly since the merger happened I think all of the movies that are at Fox, not just the Marvel movies but all the movies at Fox are being evaluated and they’ll figure out what they want to do with them.”
“I’d love to see it happen, I love the idea of Channing [Tatum] playing Gambit, I think we have a great script and I think it was a role he was born to play. It’s a character I grew up loving and I know the fans love, so I suspect/hope it’ll happen.”

This isn’t terribly shocking as Kevin Feige was revealed to have met with Noah Hawley about his Doctor Doom script and Overlord’s Julius Avery handed in his Flash Gordon script according to TheHollywoodReporter Disney will choose what to do with it. So, in theory, there is a chance that Alan Horn and Kevin Feige could approve Gambit to get made or they just kill it and move on to other projects.
Officially, Deadpool is the only X-Men character that will carry over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
