HN Entertainment has been able to confirm that second unit director James Madigan will be joining the production team on Paramount Picture’s G.I. Joe reboot/prequel film Snake Eyes starring Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians, Last Christmas).
Madigan has previously worked on RED 2 along with the last G.I. Joe movie G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Jason Statham’s The Meg. He has also worked with Snake Eyes director Robert Schwentke (RED) on Allegiant and Insurgent.
Second unit directors mostly handle action scenes that might be considered too dangerous for the main director and work closely with stunt coordinators to execute action sequences, which is why most of the time stunt coordinators also work as second unit directors on action movies.
Filming is supposed to kick-off next month in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada with a wrap date in December.
We should be hearing more casting news very soon after it was revealed that Iko Uwais will play Hard Master, Andrew Koji will play Storm Shadow, and Ursula Corbero will play Cobra operative Baroness (confirming HN’s character scoop from August).
Snake Eyes will act a reboot of sorts for the G.I. Joe franchise, exploring the origins of both the titular hero and his blood brother Storm Shadow.
There is also a third main G.I. Joe movie that will reportedly have Chuckles as the main character, it hasn’t been announced if Henry Golding and Andrew Koji will reprise their roles in that project.
We previously revealed the film’s stunt coordinator will be Kimani Ray Smith, who worked with Iko Uwais on the Netflix series Wu Assassins.
Paramount Pictures has already set the Snake Eyes release date for October 16th, 2020.
