Fox Searchlight is certainly swinging for the fences with their remake of the 1947 film Nightmare Alley, as Variety reports the film written and directed by Oscar-winner Guillermo del Toro is currently in negotiations with Oscar-winner Leonardo DiCaprio for the lead role
The film is based on the 1947 Fox movie that starred Tyrone Power as an ambitious young con-man who hooks up with a female psychiatrist who is even more corrupt than he is. At first, they enjoy success fleecing people with their mentalist act, but then she turns the table on him, out-manipulating the manipulator.
They also suggest that filming on Nightmare Alley could begin as early as this fall.
DiCaprio will be seen this summer in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and his next feature film is expected to be Martin Scorcese’s Killers of The Flower Moon that is said to begin filming this spring/summer.
Fox Searchlight has yet to give the thriller an official release date.
