Unbreakable and Split fans, get excited: We now have an official first look at M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass, thanks to several exclusive images put out by Entertainment Weekly. The images reveal the film’s central characters crossing paths in an interesting predicament.
Somehow, Unbreakable‘s David Dunn and Mr. Glass and Split‘s Kevin Crumb have all ended up in the same mental health facility. What’s more, they’re all being treated by the same psychiatrist, played by Sarah Paulson, who treats people who believe they’re comic book characters according to Shyamalan.
All three of them have seen better days – Mr. Glass looks bedraggled, David is equally disheveled and chained up, and Kevin seems to be a little manic even though he’s unrestrained.
In other images, we get a better look at Paulson’s character, presumably entering the room where we see her treating all three patients in the first image. Not much is known about her character at this time — not even her name. We also see that Split star Anya Taylor-Joy is returning for the sequel, and that she’ll be in close contact with Kevin again. How that comes about remains to be seen, especially after the events of that film.
We also see in a different shot that Mr. Glass has managed to hang onto his iconic purple outfit from the first film, albeit with some upgrades. The overcoat might be an even brighter shade of purple, which he’s paired with similarly colored loafers. The icing on the cake is a gem-studded “M.G.,” on his neckerchief — presumably for Mr. Glass.
Glass serves as a sequel to two previous Shyamalan movies: 2017’s Split and 2000’s Unbreakable. The connection of those two movies was unknown until the post-credits scene for Split which revealed an older David Dunn at a diner following the events of the film on television. This film sets up a showdown between Kevin, played by James McAvoy and Dunn, played by Bruce Willis, with Samuel L. Jackson’s criminal mastermind Mr. Glass somehow in the mix as well.
Glass is set to hit theaters January 18th, 2019.
