EntertainmentWeekly and Disney have released the first images/details about their upcoming animated film titled Soul that will have a voice cast led by Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx and comedian/actress Tina Fey.
Thanks to SlashFilm for putting together a slightly more coherent synopsis of the animated film.
Soul, directed by Inside Out and Up helmer Pete Docter, follows Joe Gardner (voiced by Jamie Foxx), an aging middle school music teacher who has long dreamed of performing jazz music on stage. Gardner gets his chance when he’s booked as the opening act at the Half Note Club, a real jazz club in New York City. But his jazz debut is put in jeopardy when an accident causes his soul to be separated from his body, sending him to the “You Seminar,” a place where souls develop and gain passions before being placed in a newborn child.
22 (voiced by Tina Fey, a soul-in-training who has quite the bleak outlook on life after being trapped at the You Seminar for years.
Other voice actors include Daveed Diggs, Phylicia Rashad, and The Roots drummer Questlove.
Below Disney posted a few other pieces of artwork/images from the new film, including the characters that will be played by Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey.

EW adds that there will be music from Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor composers from The Social Network, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and HBO’s Watchmen. They’ll be working alongside Jon Batiste, the current bandleader of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS.
With compositions from Jon Batiste, Atticus Ross, and Trent Reznor, music naturally became a central part of Joe’s story and his journey.
Soul will be released by Disney on June 19th, 2020.
