Despite the hiccups with the ongoing lawsuit between Fast and The Furious producer Neal Moritz and Universal Pictures, things are seemingly moving forward with Fast and Furious 9.
HN Entertainment has an updated production start for the project. As I previously reported at OmegaUnderground filming was thought to start on April 20th, it’s now shooting a little earlier than that with a new start date of April 8th. Fast and Furious 9 would wrap sometime in August.
Locations are said to include London, England and might include Hawaii as well. Atlanta has been previously a homestead production location for the franchise for years.
Director Justin Lin and cinematographer Stephen F. Windon are expected to return.
It also looks like Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez are set to be back. Although, it’s a little less clear if others will be back. Folks like Tyrese Gibson and Dwayne Johnson have had on set tensions and could choose to not be involved.
Then again, London and Hawaii were filming locations for Hobbs and Shaw, which could have some sort of linkage to the ninth installment. I’ll be curious to see if new cast members like Vanessa Kirby and Idris Elba will be showing up.
Universal Pictures has set the release date for Fast and The Furious 9 for April 10th, 2020.
