HN Entertainment has been able to confirm that Sony Pictures’ Uncharted movie is set to shoot at Studio Babelsberg in Potsdam-Babelsberg, which is located just outside of Berlin, Germany.
The facility has been used for Inglourious Basterds, Eddie The Eagle, Captain America: Civil War, Atomic Blonde, Michael B. Jordan’s upcoming action flick Without Remorse, the Charlie’s Angels reboot, and we can confirm will host Lana Wachowski’s Matrix 4 once the shooting in San Francisco, California completes.
We’ve also been able to confirm that production designer Shepherd Frankel will indeed work the video game adaptation after being previously linked for the Sony project.
Shepherd’s credits include Ant-Man, Ant-Man & The Wasp, Horrible Bosses, and Baywatch. He also worked on the additional photography for Marvel Studios’ Thor: The Dark World, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Doctor Strange.
Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Cherry) will be playing a young version of treasure hunter protagonist Nathan Drake with Mark Wahlberg (Infinite, Transformers: The Last Knight) playing his mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan.
Venom director Ruben Fleischer is the latest name to be attached to direct the project with recent reports saying he’s in talks with Sony after multiple directors and screenwriters have exited over the last couple of years.
Bumblebee’s Travis Knight was previously attached before leaving himself.
Holland is also returning to the MCU with the untitled Spider-Man 3 film with director Jon Watts back and is expected to begin shooting later this summer.
DiscussingFilm has previously stated that South Korean cinematographer Chung Hoon-Chung (The Handmaiden, Last Night In Soho, IT, Zombieland: Double Tap) is part of the production team and could begin filming next month.
Barring anymore delays it looks like the film is a go.
Sony Pictures had originally planned on releasing Uncharted on December 18th going head-to-head with Denis Villeneuve’s science-fiction epic Dune before removing it from the 2020 release calendar.
The new release date for Uncharted will be March 5th, 2021.
