HN Entertainment has been able to confirm that the Little Shop of Horrors remake from Warner Bros. and director Greg Berlanti has added production designer Marcus Rowland to the production team.
Rowland’s credits include Hott Fuzz, Shaun of The Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Baby Driver, Rocketman, and most recently worked on Edgar Wright’s Last Night In Soho that recently wrapped production.
Meek flower shop assistant Seymour pines for co-worker Audrey. During a total eclipse, he discovers an unusual plant he names Audrey II, which feeds only on human flesh and blood. The growing plant attracts a great deal of business for the previously struggling store. After Seymour feeds Audrey’s boyfriend, Orin, to the plant after Orin’s accidental death, he must come up with more bodies for the increasingly bloodthirsty plant.
Filming is expected to take place mostly in California after landing a hefty tax incentive from the state.
Casting has yet to be announced but Billy Porter (Pose) reportedly is being eyed for the alien man-eating plant Audrey II (voice role) and the studio is rumored to have wanted Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born) to play Audrey I.
Growing up I was obsessed with Little Shop of Horrors as I loved the Frank Oz directed version of the film and even saw a stage performance of the musical live as a child.
Warner Bros. has yet to give Little Shop of Horrors a release date.
