On Tuesday, HN Entertainment’s Nicholas Whitcomb spoke with Predators director Nimród Antal on a bunch of different topics including working Predators and would love the chance to direct comic book movies like DC Comics’ Lobo for Warner Bros. or Sony’s Venom sequel. Nick was also able to ask Nimród about horror movies he’s enjoyed over the years and exclusively revealed some brief information about his next project.
ANTAL: “Recently, I saw Mandy which blew my mind and I have to say was an incredible experience as a viewer, if we’re talking about films of late that I’ve seen that I thought were super cool, Mandy is definitely up there.”
“But I grew up in the 80s, a friend of mine and I were just talking about the films we grew up watching stuff that I’d never let my kids watch at the age I was seeing it, completely inappropriate and gory. I can’t believe what we got away with as kids but I would have to say the first thing that comes to mind for me is Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the original. I loved A Nightmare On Elm Street.”
“But then, I was also into super obscure trashy horror films like the original Mother’s Day, Truth or Dare, I really liked Re-Animator which was a killer film. I was a big fan of the original Living Dead films, I loved Return of The Living Dead. I could go on and on…Demons I was into then I got into the Troma [movies] like Toxic Avenger films and things like that. Everything from the more hardcore of Texas Chainsaw Massacre all the way to the zombie genre all the way to the comedy horror. I think I love films, in general. [The] Shining comes to mind too.”
Antal then teased a script he’s developing which seemingly will be focused on the Greek myth of the Minotaur.
HN: Is there anything you’re currently working on at the moment we haven’t talked about yet and that you’d like to make our audience aware of?
ANTAL: “I am working on something and I don’t want to say anything because I don’t want to jinx it and I’ve made that mistake in the past of speaking on projects that I was writing or that scripts I had finished, then for whatever reason I wasn’t able to pull that off and then felt disappointed, so I’d rather not say anything. But yes, I’m certainly working on something.”
“I will say one word to kind to maybe exciting the few people that have interest in it, but “Minotaur” and the re-telling of the Minotaur legend is something I just finished a script on that I’m pursuing. We’ll see what happens.”
If you’re not aware, the Minotaur is from Greek mythology and is directly linked to the heroic figure Theseus, who slays him in the Labyrinth.
The Minotaur was the offspring of the Cretan Queen Pasiphae and a majestic bull. Due to the Minotaur’s monstrous form, King Minos ordered the craftsman, Daedalus, and his son, Icarus, to build a huge maze known as the Labyrinth to house the beast.
Antal didn’t go into detail on the project which seemed to be his preference as he didn’t want to jinx things. However, there is a good chance based on our own speculation the film could be similar Greek mythology movies such as Troy, Immortals (featured Henry Cavill in the Theseus role) or the remake of Clash of The Titans.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see if this project will ultimately materialize, but we’re certainly excited from that brief mention of it.
We’ll be posting more from our exclusive interview with Nimród Antal soon, stay tuned.
