HN Entertainment has learned that Martin Scorsese’s next film starring Leonardo DiCaprio titled Killers of The Flower Moon will shoot in the state of New Mexico.
Filming is also expected to take place in the state of Oklahoma, where the events are mostly set.
Deadline also recently reported that Paramount Pictures bought the film and the distribution rights, but haven’t officially given it a release date.
During a film slate presentation to European exhibitors at CineEurope in Barcelona, Paramount chief Jim Gianopulos revealed that his studio has closed a deal to finance and distribute Killers of the Flower Moon, the non-fiction book by David Grann that has Martin Scorsese attached to direct and Leonardo DiCaprio to star, with a script by Eric Roth.
Set in 1920s Oklahoma, where the Osage Indians were granted revenue rights to oil discovered under their lands that was harvested by oil companies. Suddenly, they began to get murdered as did those trying to investigate. It came down to the newly created Bureau of Investigation, to overcome the corrupting influences from oil money and politics to solve the murder mystery, one that would bring the FBI to prominence.
They’ve previously worked together on Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, and The Wolf of Wall Street.
Due to the extensive (and expensive) post-production on Martin’s The Irishman and DiCaprio’s current press commitments to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood over the summer, production had been delayed slightly. There is a good chance it could begin in the late summer or more likely sometime in the fall.
Production designer Dante Ferretti (Silence, Shutter Island) is attached and there is a basic assumption that Marty’s longtime editor Thelma Schoonmaker will also be working on Killer Moon.
The project might be a solid reason why Leo couldn’t accept the lead role in Guillermo del Toro’s noir-thriller Nightmare Alley as the two projects schedules seemingly conflicted with each other.
Martin and Leonardo are also prepping a period serial killer series for Hulu titled The Devil In The White City.
