Netflix is moving into the world of comic book movies and one of them will be an adaption of Greg Ruca’s The Old Guard.
When I was at OmegaUnderground last year, I first broke the news that director Gina Prince-Bythewood would be directing The Old Guard along with filming taking place in the United Kingdom, Paris, and Morocco. It was recently announced that actresses Charlize Theron (Atomic Blonde, Mad Max: Fury Road) and KiKi Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk) would be starring in the film based on the Image Comics property.
A small group of soldiers, led by a woman named Andy, who are inexplicably immortal and have been working as mercenaries through the ages. The novelty of not dying long gone, the group gets a jolt in their bones when they discover the existence of a new immortal, a black woman serving in the Marines, at the same time as a nefarious organization captures their undying actions on camera.
HN Entertainment has been able to confirm that The Old Guard’s main production space will be Shepperton Studios in Surrey, England and filming is also said to be wrapping sometime in August (kicking-off this May).
We previously confirmed that production designer Paul Kirby (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Jason Bourne, Hellboy) would be working on the film.
Netflix has yet to give an official release date for The Old Guard.
