HN Entertainment can exclusively reveal that Marvel Television has added yet another director for their live-action Son of Satan streaming series Helstrom for Hulu.
Aussie director Cherie Nowlan has been added to the directing team with television credits that include Suits, How To Get Away With Murder, Animal Kingdom, Riverdale, Claws, Underbelly, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
Other directors we’ve exclusively reported on that are working on the Marvel Television series include Diana Reid (The Handmaid’s Tale), Michael Offer (The Punisher, Homeland), Amanda Row (Cloak & Dagger), Jovanka Vuckovic (Riot Girls), Sanford Bookstaver (Jessica Jones), and Bill Roe (The Blacklist, Castle).
In Marvel’s Helstrom, Daimon (aka Son of Satan) and Ana Helstrom (aka Satana) are the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer. The siblings have a complicated dynamic as they track down the terrorizing worst of humanity — each with their attitude and skills.
Tom Austen (The Borgias) and Sydney Lemmon (Succession, Fear The Walking Dead) will be leading the series as the two Helstrom siblings.
Helstrom was one of the only live-action Marvel Television projects to survive the folding of the company into Marvel Studios, as Kevin Feige is now overseeing the television division as Marvel’s new Chief Creative Officer.
Jeph Loeb, who had been the head of Marvel Television is said to be leaving Marvel once the transition is complete.
It hasn’t been made official if Helstrom would be a single-season series or would be incorporated into Feige’s new mandate to make all future television projects MCU hard-canon. Considering that the series came during the Loeb era there isn’t much hope that it’ll get multiple seasons or connect to the bigger MCU as the Disney+ shows will be.
Hulu has yet to announce an official drop date for Heltrom, but fall/winter 2020 or early 2021 is a good bet.
