Earlier this month it was revealed by TheHollywoodReporter that Karen Gillan (Guardians of The Galaxy) would be headlining Gunpowder Milkshake, a mature female-driven assassin action flick that will be directed by Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado, the Israeli directing duo behind the foreign language revenge thriller Big Bad Wolves.
HN Entertainment is now hearing from sources that British actress Lena Headey (Dredd, Game of Thrones, 300) is in the mix to join confirmed lead Karen Gillan.
We also got our hands on some first meaty details on the film’s plot, that may reveal that Lena could be up for the role of Gillan’s assassin mother in the action flick.
A young woman and her estranged mother (both assassins) must join forces on the run to take down a male-dominated crime syndicate they used to work for.
Another name we’ve also heard is Anya Taylor-Joy (New Mutants, Glass, Split, The Witch), but it’s unknown what role she could be eyed for.
In the original report from TheHollywoodReporter, they suggested a bulk of the roles would be female.
Script details are being kept muzzled but the project is described as being in the assassin genre in a story that spans multiple generations. The entire cast is envisioned as being all female with Gillan the cornerstone.
Filming is reportedly taking place this spring in Berlin, Germany.
A release date has yet to be announced for Gunpowder Milkshake but could drop sometime in 2020.
