In November, comedic twins Kenny Lucas and Keith Lucas aka The Lucas Brothers spoke to ComedyHype in an interview and the duo revealed a film project they were developing with Judd Apatow and had just sold to Universal Pictures.

Kenny: We actually just teamed up with Judd Apatow for a project. We’re very excited about it. We sold a film to Universal with Apatow Productions.

Keith: We’ve been working on this film with Judd for the past year, so it’s really exciting that we’re actually getting the ball rolling on it. Judd’s films are incredible, so working with Judd has heavily influenced and enhanced our storytelling skills. We can’t wait to start shooting the film.

Well, HN Entertainment has learned that not only will Judd produce via Apatow Productions along with The Big Sick producer Barry Mendel attached, but he’s also expected to direct the film as well with filming taking place in New York City, New York.

The untitled project’s script will also be penned by the Lucas Brothers alongside Judd.

We don’t yet have production dates for the project as it seemingly will have to wait if Apatow directs. In January, TheHollywoodReporter revealed that Judd’s next directing gig would be a project starring SNL cast member Pete Davidson and they suggested a May/June production start on the project, which would suggest that this one might not be getting off the ground anytime soon.

A May or June start is being eyed for the project, which will be overseen for Universal by executive VP production Erik Baiers.

Details on the project are currently unknown but I’m sure the Lucas Brothers may draw from their real-life experience as with most Judd Apatow productions. Unless it’s a massive alien invasion film, I think it’s safe to say it’s going to be the regular R-rated comedy that Apatow’s producing/directing brand is best known for.

Apatow has been a busy bee lately with his HBO series Crashing starring Pete Holmes (where the Lucas Brothers appear) and his most recent film directorial efforts the Amy Schumer film Trainwreck and his fantastic documentary The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling.

Once we get more information on the comedy project we will certainly update.
