20th Century Fox is still very much in the Ryan Reynolds business and one of their upcoming partnerships will be Free Guy, a science fiction action film directed by Shawn Levy (Real Steel, Stranger Things). Ryan’s co-star will be Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer as the film’s female lead, an avatar named Molotov Girl.
Free Guy centers on a background character who realizes he’s living in a video game. With the help of an avatar, he tries to prevent the makers of the game from shutting down his world.
HN Entertainment has been able to confirm that stunt coordinator Chris O’Hara has joined the Fox action flick. His credits include Hobbs and Shaw, Venom, Red Sparrow, Jurassic World, and The Bourne Legacy.
We also recently confirmed that the Free Guy’s cinematographer is George Richmond (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Tomb Raider) and will be shooting in Boston, Massachusetts.
It sounds like Free Guy is a lot more action-focused than I originally realized.
Supporting cast members include Get Out’s Lil Rel Howery, and Stranger Things’ Joe Keery.
Other projects on Ryan’s plate include Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, Shogun Wedding, Detective Pikachu 2, Clue, and possibly Deadpool 3/X-Force (once the Disney-Fox merger completes).
20th Century Fox has given Free Guy an official release date of July 3rd, 2020.
