In December, Collider reported that comedians Tiffany Haddish and Awkanfina were being eyed for lead roles in Sony Pictures’ female spin-off of the raunchy R-rated comedy 21 Jump Street with Rodney Rothman (SpiderMan: Into The Spider-Verse, 22 Jump Street) writing and directing the film with Phil Lord and Chris Miller producing.
In that report, they suggested that given Haddish’s age she would be playing a teacher and not one of the young cops infiltrating the school and that Awkanfina was at the top of their list for a role.
Well, HN Entertainment has now learned from a source that the studio hopes to get cameras rolling by this October.
Given the potential fall production start, there is a good chance they’ll want a summer/fall release for Jump Street. Sony Pictures has yet to give the film an official release date.
