HN Entertainment has been able to confirm that Thomas Struthers has joined an upcoming WWII film titled The Forgotten Battle as the project’s second unit director and stunt coordinator.
Thomas is best known for working on Dunkirk, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, John Carter, X-Men: First Class, and most recently on Legendary’s science fiction epic Dune directed by Denis Villeneuve.
The WWII movie set in 1944 and focuses on a Dutchman conscripted into the Wehrmacht, a British glider pilot, and a local girl who joins the Dutch underground resistance. They make fundamental choices that will have consequences for their own lives, and for Europe’s freedom.
The Forgotten Battle is expected to shoot in the Netherlands with director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. (The Thing 2011) shooting from a script penned by Paula van der Oest (The Domino Effect) for Belgium’s Caviar Films. The production company was behind Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac.
One of the best Holland-set World War II movies I would recommend people check out is Paul Verhoeven’s (Total Recall, RoboCop) 2006 thriller Black Book starring Carice van Houten (Game of Thrones) as a young Jewish woman that is almost slaughtered trying to escape Holland joins the Dutch resistance to infiltrate the occupying Nazi command.
Warning, the below trailer is not NSFW.
It’ll be interesting to see Mathhijs make a comeback as a feature director after the crazy behind the scenes drama on The Thing prequel and its subsequent box office failure.
