HN Entertainment has confirmed that David Fincher’s next feature film Mank has added cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt to the production team.
Erik’s credits include both seasons of Netflix’s serial killer thriller series Mindhunter (working alongside David Fincher), FX’s Legion, and the Ridley Scott android sci-fi series Raised By Wolves for TNT.
Mank will be Fincher’s follow-up to the fantastic Gillian Flynn thriller Gone Girl starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike.
Will follow Herman Mankiewicz’s tumultuous development of the script for “Citizen Kane” — which would go on to be considered one of the best films of all time — alongside director Orson Welles. Despite the film’s critical success, the script was the only part of the film to win an Oscar.
Citizen Kane was directly based on real-life media baron William Randolph Hearst, who tried to have the movie banned from being played only for it to become one of the most famous films in history. Herman used his access to the Hearst social circles to help write the script, which might be what this movie will be all about.
The cast of Mank has Oscar-winner Gary Oldman leading as Mankiewicz along with the recent additions of Amanda Seyfried, Lily Collins, Charles Dance, Arliss Howard, Ferdinand Kingsley, Jamie McShane, Joseph Cross, Sam Troughton, Toby Leonard Moore, Tom Burke, Tom Pelphrey, and Tuppence Middleton.
Filming begins next month in Los Angeles, California.
I would assume that Netflix’s Mank will drop sometime in 2020.
