You might remember ThatHashtagShow revealed some character details on The Many Saints of Newark back in October, the Sopranos prequel film from New Line Cinema.
Well, we at HN Entertainment have also learned character details and the name of a hot-actress that the studio was considering for a supporting role.
NORMA CASSELLI (FEMALE SUPPORTING ROLE 30-39): 30s, forceful, sardonic, tactically savvy, and prone to self-pity. Expected better things in life and becoming a mother hasn’t warmed her up as much as she thought it would.
The interesting thing about this role is that New Line Cinema was considering casting A Star Is Born breakout Lady Gaga to play this part. Warner Bros. has been trying to wrangle her for various projects at the studio, so this isn’t terribly surprising but it’s unknown if there has been an offer made. Interesting factoid, a young Lady Gaga had a small cameo on the original series.
Vera Farmiga skews fifteen years older than what the studio was looking to play Norma, so I assume that won’t be her role.
Here are some of the film’s supporting mobsters.
AUGIE CASSELLI (MALE SUPPORTING ROLE 40-49): 40s, mid-level New Jersey mobster. Thick glasses, physically unimposing. Wary, sometimes spiteful. A bitter sense of humor. He’s dangerous but not overtly. Brother to a more dominant but less clever crew boss.
LOUIS FUSCO (MALE SUPPORTING ROLE 60-69): 65. Fancies himself respected – but has a notorious temper and clinging to a fading virility, with a young beautiful wife.
UNCLE JOE FUSCO (MALE SUPPORTING ROLE 60-69): 60s. Brother of Louis does not speak to him. Serving life sentence in State Prison, for the murder of a made guy. Becomes a mentor to Frank Fusco.
JERRY ROMANO (MALE SUPPORTING 30-39): 30s. Up and coming, capable wise guy. Intelligent but also very lethal.
Louis is most likely Dickie’s father and these characters are using casting codenames.
Filming on The Many Saints of Newark will begin on April 3rd and will complete production around June 10th. Locales, of course, will consist of various parts of New Jersey and New York.
The film stars Alessandro Nivola as Richard “Dickie” Moltisanti the mobster father of Sopranos’ Christopher and will feature a young Tony Soprano. Variety recently announced that Jon Bernthal and Vera Farmiga have joined the cast in undisclosed mystery roles.
Here is also the synopsis for the movie.
Set in the era of the Newark riots in the 60s. That was a time when the African-Americans and the Italians of Newark were at each other’s throats, and amongst the gangsters of each group, those conflicts became especially lethal.
New Line Cinema has yet to give the prequel film an official release date.
