‘Captain Marvel’ Directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck To Direct FX’s Series ‘Mrs. America’ Starring Oscar-Winner Cate Blanchett

HN Entertainment has exclusively learned that Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s next gig will be working on the FX series Mrs. America which stars Oscar-winning Australian actress Cate Blanchett (Lord of The Rings, Thor: Ragnarok) as antifeminist and conservative political figure Phyllis Schlafly.

The series will, of course, take place during the 1970s and cover the Equal Rights Amendment movements along with its detractors like Phyllis. It’s certainly an interesting project for Boden and Fleck coming off the massive success of Captain Marvel and the assumption that they might be expected to return for Captain Marvel 2, eventually.

We can add that filming will be taking place from June 19th to November 1st in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Here is the synopsis of the series via TheHollywoodReporter.

The project tells the true story of the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, and the unexpected backlash led by a conservative woman named Phyllis Schlafly (Blanchett). Through the eyes of the women of that era — Schlafly and second-wave feminists Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, Shirley Chisholm, Bella Abzug and Jill Ruckelshaus — the series will explore how one of the toughest battlegrounds in the culture wars of the 1970s helped give rise to the Moral Majority and forever shifted our political landscape.

Normally, I’m not terribly interested in these biopic series but Cate Blanchett having a prominent role certainly grabs my attention also having Anna/Boden involved will get the series some added attention as well.

An air date has yet to be announced by FX, but our assumption is sometime in 2020.
