Eddie Murphy recently shot an upcoming film that focuses on the life of Rudy Ray Moore. The Netflix film is directed by Craig Brewer, who is likely best known for his breakout film Hustle and Flow. We have news on an awesome casting addition to the project.
Real life story of the irreverent Rudy Ray Moore, a “larger than life” comedian, musician, singer, actor, and film producer in the 1970’s. When he couldn’t get work in Hollywood, he simply created his own – including the most well-known Blaxploitation film of all time, Dolemite.
HN Entertainment has now learned from a direct source that comedian turned drama series actor Bob Odenkirk has taken a role in the film. We currently don’t have details on the part but it is somewhat substantial. Odenkirk made a name for himself with his HBO’s sketch comedy series Mr. Show and has recently taken a dramatic turn with his Breaking Bad spin-off series Better Call Saul.
Bob was recently announced for the action film Nobody penned by John Wick franchise creator and screenwriter Derek Kolstad. Updates concerning that feature from STXfilms are a little unknown at this time as it had been eyeing a shoot in Toronto, where the studio has been shooting a lot of their upcoming features.
The previously announced cast includes Eddie Murphy as Rudy Ray Moore aka Dolemite, Keegan-Michael Key, Wesley Snipes, Craig Robinson, Chris Rock, Mike Epps, T.I., and Tituss Burgess.
Netflix expects Dolemite Is My Name to drop on the streaming service sometime in 2019.
