I first broke the news about Ben Wheatley directing a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Rebecca last February at OmegaUnderground and almost a year later I have more intel to share on the upcoming Netflix movie.
HN Entertainment can now confirm that production designer Sarah Greenwood has joined the film. The 6-time Oscar nominee’s credits include Atonement, Hanna, Darkest Hour, Sherlock Holmes, Disney’s Beauty & The Beast, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Anna Karenina, and Our Kind of Traitor.
The film based on the 1938 novel by Daphne du Maurier, follows a woman who marries a widower, but as his servants become more hostile, the newlywed grows more fearful, until she eventually learns the secret of what really happened to his first wife.
Actors Armie Hammer (Free Fire) and Lily James (Baby Driver) are reportedly attached to star in the lead roles.
Production on Rebecca is expected to begin this May in the United Kingdom.
The film is based on the gothic romance novel written by Daphne du Maurier and its new screenplay was written by Jane Goldman (The Woman In Black, X-Men: First Class, Stardust), who will be showrunning HBO’s Game of Thrones spin-off series The Long Night.
British director Ben Wheatley is best known for his features Sightseers, Kill-List, A Field In England, and Free Fire.
Netflix has yet to announce when Rebecca will be ready to be released on the streaming platform but could be ready by the fall.
