HN Entertainment has been able to exclusively reveal that the Paramount Pictures film Snake Eyes, a spinoff of their Hasbro franchise G.I. Joe will be rebooting the classic franchise villain Baroness for the solo movie and is currently casting the part.
Baroness was previously played by Sienna Miller (Layer Cake, American Sniper) in the original movie G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra starring Channing Tatum.
A group of various actresses are currently auditioning for the part from known to mostly unknown, as the studio casts a wide net.
We should be hearing a handful of the other cast choices and roles in the next couple of weeks.
This would certainly be a sign along with the recent casting of Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians, Last Christmas) as the titular Joe that Paramount Pictures is indeed rebooting the franchise, not unlike what they’ve done with Transformers via Bumblebee.
At the same time, Paramount is moving forward with a third G.I. Joe film focusing on the character Chuckles, that will also act a reset for the franchise.
Snake Eyes will be an origin story for the character and is expected to also include his relationship with blood brother/antagonist Storm Shadow.
Filming is confirmed to begin this October in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
We previously learned production may move to Japan at some point.
Paramount Pictures has given Snake Eyes a release date of October 16th, 2020.
