‘Avatar’ Sequels Working Title Confirmed To Be ‘Coral’ – Currently Filming In New Zealand

HN Entertainment has been able to exclusively confirm that the working title of James Cameron’s Avatar sequels currently filming in New Zealand will be Coral, a cheeky nod to sequels exploring the oceans of Pandora.

James Cameron is shooting multiple sequels at once.

The live-action portion of the filming on the sequels began back in May in Wellington, New Zealand at Stone Street Studios. Where the original film was shot.

Fox and producer Jon Landau recently released the first shot of the Wellington shoot.

Also, we’ve confirmed that scenes will be shot in the scenic coastal area of Wairarapa as well.

A bulk of the motion capture portion was previously completed in Manhattan Beach, California.

There is a possibility the working title may reveal that the coral reef of Pandora might be an important part of the plot of the film, but that is just our current speculation. The speculation stems from the original Avatar speaking towards deforestation and these next installments could be a nod to keeping Earth’s oceans clean/protecting the coral reef, given James Cameron’s advocacy for the environmental causes.

It could also refer to the Sea People/Reef Clan that will be featured in the new movies.

The cast of the sequels includes Kate Winslet, Sam Worthington, Cliff Curtis, Zoe Salanda, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Michelle Yeoh, Oona Chaplin, Edie Falco, and Brandan Cowell.

Here are the release dates of the next four Avatar sequels.

  • Avatar 2 – December 17th, 2021
  • Avatar 3 – December 22nd, 2023
  • Avatar 4 – December 19th, 2025
  • Avatar 5 – December 17th, 2027

On the lush alien world of Pandora live the Na’vi, beings who appear primitive but are highly evolved. Because the planet’s environment is poisonous, human/Na’vi hybrids, called Avatars, must link to human minds to allow for free movement on Pandora. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a paralyzed former Marine, becomes mobile again through one such Avatar and falls in love with a Na’vi woman (Zoe Saldana). As a bond with her grows, he is drawn into a battle for the survival of her world.
