Epix has been developing a prequel series based on the DC Comics/Batman supporting character Alfred Pennyworth focusing on his early days before becoming the man-servant/protector to the Wayne family.
Revolves around Alfred Pennyworth, a former British SAS soldier in his 20s, who forms a security company and goes to work with a young billionaire Thomas Wayne, who is not yet Bruce’s father, in 1960s London.
Alfred is described as a boyishly handsome, cheerful, charming, clever young man from London. Honest, open-faced and witty, he’s the kind of person people would never take for a SAS killer. Alfred doesn’t know how to reconcile the kind-hearted boy he used to be with the cold, calculated killer he was forced to become. He’s a man on the make, who doesn’t know what to make of himself yet.
HN Entertainment has been able to confirm that Taboo and McMafia cinematographer Mark Patten (Morgan) will be shooting the DC Comics prequel series. He has also shot additional scenes for Ridley Scott films Prometheus and The Martian.
Newcomer Jack Bannon (Ripper Street) will reportedly play the titular Pennyworth, Ben Aldridge will play a young Thomas Wayne, Paloma Faith is in the role of villain Bet Sykes, and Jason Flemyng (X-Men: First Class) will be reportedly playing a villain named Lord Harwood.
Filming on the 10-episode order has been taking place since October at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the United Kingdom.
