Variety reports that Emma Stone is eyed to star in Damien Chazelle’s next feature film project, Babylon.
The La La Land director is looking to reunite with star Emma Stone on a period piece set in the 1920s. However, the film is not a sure thing just yet as Chazelle is currently shopping the pic at various studios including Paramount and Lionsgate. According to THR, the script boasts an $80 million dollar price tag at 180 pages.
The plot reportedly revolves around the transition from silent films to talkies and will feature real-life characters as well as fictional ones. If Stone were to join the film, she would play Clara Bow, a real actress who rose to stardom during the 20s silent film era. She had a successful transition from silent films to “talkies” after 1927.
Chazelle is reportedly looking for an all-star cast in addition to Emma Stone, with Olivia Hamilton, Matt Plouffe, Tobey Maguire and Marc Platt are set as producers.
The large price tag could spell danger for the livelihood of the project as the director just came off of First Man, a large budget film that failed at the box office despite being well-received from critics. Chazelle is currently working on a Netflix series titled The Eddy, as well as an undisclosed series for Apple.
