Bad news for any fans hoping to catch a glimpse of Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam in DC’s upcoming film Shazam!: the action star officially won’t be making an appearance. In an interview with SYFY WIRE, The Rock confirmed that he would not be in the upcoming film saying “I’m not in that one.”
Johnson will instead be starring in his own solo movie as Black Adam, playing the nemesis of Shazam so it stood to reason that he might make an appearance in the upcoming film. Even though it doesn’t look like we will see Johnson’s character Black Adam very soon, there is some hope that he and Shazam will eventually go head to head.
“It’s Shazam and Black Adam and, with the way the DC universe works, we should — in theory — meet up on the big screen,” Johnson said. “But who knows.”
Johnson has been interested in a Black Adam movie since at least the early 2000s. He was cast for the role back when New Line was looking at producing a live action Shazam! Movie. The project was later disbanded. However, in 2017 The Rock got his chance to take the role again in a standalone movie as the project officially began pre-production.
Shazam! Will be at San Diego Comic-Con in a few weeks and many expect to get a lot more information on the movie.
