Recently, Vin Diesel announced on Instagram that Justin Lin’s Fast and Furious 9 would begin filming soon in London, and it looks like there is one franchise cast member that won’t be returning at the moment.
While speaking with MTVNews at the Sundance Film Festival, Dwayne Johnson revealed that he sadly won’t be appearing in Fast and Furious 9, which is expected to begin filming next month in London, England. He does, however, leave the door open to return for a showdown with Vin Diesel’s Dom in Fast and Furious 10.
“The plan has always been for the Fast and Furious universe to grow and expand. As of now, we’re not in Fast 9 because they’re about to start shooting. But who knows with Fast 10 down the road, you never know. Because, look, at the end of the day, the truth is there’s unfinished business between Hobbs and Dom. It’s unfinished.”

I assume one of the major reasons for Johnson not appearing is a direct scheduling conflict with his shoot on Sony’s Jumanji sequel which will be shooting at the same time in Atlanta and Hawaii.
Johnson also recently completed production on his Furious spinoff, Hobbs and Shaw directed by David Leitch (Deadpool 2, John Wick, Atomic Blonde) which he co-stars with Jason Statham, Idris Elba, and Vanessa Kirby.
Hobbs and Shaw will open on August 2nd and it’s been confirmed that Universal Pictures will unleash the first trailer today.
