While there are some new developments on a Shazam! sequel with the recent news that screenwriter Henry Gayden is returning to pen the second film, new quotes from Black Adam actor Dwayne Johnson via Variety isn’t terribly reassuring that he’ll be appearing in that second Shazam! movie.
VARIETY: Congrats on Shazam! and all the success, I loved it, any sequel plans in the works?
JOHNSON: “Umm…talking about it right now, but you know just as the producers and the guys at Warner Bros. like to do, just kinda wait and let the movie continue to roll out. It got an amazing reception I was very happy with the success. I had a little bit to do with it as a producer, I was just responsible for spitting the brands of Black Adam and Shazam! and I’m happy they went on to success.”
“So, we’ll concentrate on Black Adam. If there is a sequel in the future, which it seems like there will be then maybe one day there will be a little intermingling.”

Dwayne Johnson has voiced his desire to get Black Adam up and running with production aiming to begin next year. Along with these new red carpet statements, it would suggest for the moment he’s more focused on getting his movie made before any crossovers happen. That isn’t terribly shocking given he admittedly wanted to separate the DC Comics brand.
We’re still waiting on a director to be announced for Black Adam, while David F. Sandberg is reportedly returning for Shazam! 2.
