HN Entertainment has learned that Drive production designer Beth Mickle (Only God Forgives) has joined the production team on James Gunn’s DC Comics movie The Suicide Squad. Mickle had been previously attached to Guardians of The Galaxy 3 before James Gunn was removed and then rehired (there is a good chance she’ll work on Guardians 3 as well).
Beth also worked on Margot Robbie’s Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.
She was once attached to the Flash solo film before it stalled.
The cast so far includes Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Idris Elba as a new character. Along with John Cena reportedly in talks for a part as well.
I’m really curious with Birds of Prey aiming for an R-rating if Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will attempt to go down that road as well, which is a franchise that could benefit from the uptick in maturity given the body count and violence you’d expect from the comic book premise.
Filming is expected to begin this fall.
Warner Bros. has set the release date for The Suicide Squad for August 6th, 2021.
