During a recent interview with EntertainmentWeekly, Avengers: Endgame actor Don Cheadle talked to them about the War Machine solo spin-off movie that Marvel Studios had been considering making around the release of Iron Man 2, but never actually got made.
EW: Years back there was talk of a War Machine movie. I know you mentioned it and [Black Panther co-screenwriter] Joe Robert Cole was working on it. Do you have any idea what kind of story that would have been?
CHEADLE: “No. We kicked it around a bit. There was definitely going to be a lot of tension between his job as a military man and his allegiances to the code that he swore an oath to uphold, versus the changing world. I think they probably would have run afoul of each other a little bit, but I don’t know if he would have been a straight fugitive, or if he would have become decommissioned. But there was definitely going to be some tension between those two worlds.”
It’s interesting that Black Widow is getting her own solo movie in 2020 along with Disney+ series Falcon & Winter Soldier, Loki, and Wanda Vision on the horizon while War Machine is standing around without either a film or series. I’m curious if they’ll keep Rhodey on the sidelines or give him a little more to do if he’s getting a meatier role in Avengers: Endgame.
We’ll see War Machine kicking some ass later this month as Disney has set the release date for Avengers: Endgame for April 26th.
Adrift in space with no food or water, Tony Stark sends a message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile, the remaining Avengers — Thor, Black Widow, Captain America, and Bruce Banner — must figure out a way to bring back their vanquished allies for an epic showdown with Thanos — the evil demigod who decimated the planet and the universe.
