A big screen adaptation of the 90’s Nickelodeon show Are You Afraid of the Dark? is moving forward at Paramount Players, and it looks like the studio has found their director.

D.J. Caruso is in talks to helm the film.
Gary Dauberman, the writer behind the New Line horror movies It and Annabelle: Creation,wrote the script and will produce the project.
Are You Afraid of the Dark? first premiered on Nickelodeon in 1992 as part of SNICK (a portion of programming on Nickelodeon which was geared towards older children and teenagers) and ran until 1996. The series was rebooted in 1999 with new writers and showrunners but only lasted one season. Originally created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel, the series followed a group of kids/teenagers known as the Midnight Society. The group would swap scary stories and tales of urban legends but updated with a modern twist. The film version is intended to be darker and scarier in tone.
Are You Afraid of the Dark? will hit theaters on October 11, 2019.
