Disney’s live-action remake of Aladdin directed by Guy Ritchie is heading towards a very solid domestic opening during the Memorial weekend.
BoxOfficePro has revealed the 3-day estimate is $84 million and 4-day estimate $104 million. It’s certainly an impressive take considering the film’s budget is in the $183 million range.
The film also earned an A from audiences via CinemaScore, which I’m sure Disney is happy to see, it’ll be interesting to see how much the global total can go.
A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, “Aladdin” is written by John August and Ritchie based on Disney’s “Aladdin.” The film stars Will Smith as the Genie; Mena Massoud as Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar; Navid Negahban as the Sultan; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia and Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders.
Another impressive number includes that John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum’s second weekend is aiming for $29.8 million (almost as much as what John Wick: Chapter 2 made the opening weekend in 2017) over the long weekend as well. Last weekend, the third John Wick installment made a franchise-high $56.8 million. These are exciting numbers for Lionsgate as they’ve already announced that John Wick: Chapter 4 is set for release on May 21st, 2021, which will go head-to-head with Taika Waititi’s live-action Akira movie.
