An official Disney media website has seemingly confirmed that the character played by famed director Werner Herzog in the live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian will be referred to as simply The Client.
A potential nod that Herzog’s character hires The Mandalorian for a job.
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. “The Mandalorian” is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
This new trailer seemingly cements that the series is an homage of sorts to the films of Sergio Leone and Akira Kurosawa, taking those fun ronin/samurai/spaghetti western elements and placing them within the Star Wars universe.
I’m beyond excited to see what this era of Star Wars looks like after Return of Jedi along with exploring the origins of the First Order.
The cast consists of Pedro Pascal (Wonder Woman 1984, Game of Thrones, Kingsman: The Golden Circle) as the titular Mandalorian, Gina Carano (Fast and Furious 6, Deadpool) as Cara Dune, Carl Weathers (Predator, Rocky, Happy Gilmore) as Greef Carga, Giancarlo Esposito (Do The Right Thing, Breaking Bad) as Moff Gideon, Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok, The Suicide Squad) as IG-11, Werner Herzog (Jack Reacher) as the Client, Bill Burr (Breaking Bad), Mark Boone Jr. (Batman Begins, Memento), Ming-Na Wen (Mulan, Agents of SHIELD), Julia Jones (Westworld) as Omera, and Natalia Tena (Game of Thrones) as a Twi’lek bounty hunter.
Disney is so happy with the series they’ve already greenlit season two which will see Carl Weathers and Jon Favreau each direct an episode.
Next year will see the production of Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor series and Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
The Mandalorian beings airing on Disney+ starting on November 12th.
