TheHollywoodReporter has a source that claims that Disney could be spending $25 million per episode on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Hawkeye. All three are live-action series being developed by Marvel Studios to air on their streaming service Disney+.
Disney is sparing no expense on programming, projecting a 2020 original content budget short of $1 billion. The Mandalorian is said to cost $15 million an episode, for instance, and a source pegs Marvel entries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision and Hawkeye at as much as $25 million per episode.
A ten million dollar uptick from what Disney is spending on the live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian, which is said to cost $15 million an episode.
This would be more than previously stated by Variety, who said each season would cost between $100-150 million.
All of the shows that Marvel Studios is producing are expected to be six to eight episodes in length with budgets comparable to a Marvel film project, which typically run between $100 and $150 million. According to an individual with knowledge of the productions, Marvel Studios execs and Feige held meetings early on to discuss how to maintain the visual standard fans have come to expect from Marvel’s films while still bringing their budgets more in line with other TV shows. Those budgets will still be on the high end of the spectrum.
It remains to be seen if Disney will spend more on their other Star Wars shows like Cassian Andor and the Kenobi series. Also, if they’ll want to spend more on the next wave of Marvel shows like She-Hulk, Moon Knight, and Ms. Marvel.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier/WandaVision are expected to kick-off production this fall.
