Disney In Talks With ‘Pirates of The Caribbean’ Actor Javier Bardem To Play King Triton In ‘The Little Mermaid’

A new report from our pals over at TheDisinsider first exclusively revealed that Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem is in talks with Disney for the role of King Triton (Ariel’s father) in their upcoming live-action version of The Little Mermaid.

Only a day after the news of Harry Styles being in talks to play Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid live-action adaptation broke, we are now hearing from a source close to the project that Javier Bardem is in talks to play Ariel’s father King Triton.

He has experience working with the studio as he played a villain in their film Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

This news was later supported by a report from Deadline.

Bardem would join cast members Halle Bailey, Melissa McCarthy, Harry Styles, Awkwafina, and Jacob Tremblay.

In Disney’s beguiling animated romp, rebellious 16-year-old mermaid Ariel is fascinated with life on land. On one of her visits to the surface, which are forbidden by her controlling father, King Triton, she falls for a human prince. Determined to be with her new love, Ariel makes a dangerous deal with the sea witch Ursula to become human for three days. But when plans go awry for the star-crossed lovers, the king must make the ultimate sacrifice for his daughter.
