Disney Drops First Look Teaser Trailer For Jon Favreau’s ‘Lion King’

Walt Disney Pictures and director Jon Favreau are reuniting after the massive success of adapting their animated version of The Jungle Book, with a “live-action” remake of The Lion King. The film will use similar high-end CGI effects that brought the creatures of the Jungle Book to life. Disney has dropped the first look teaser trailer for the film which focuses on the iconic opening of the original animated film.

The adventures of the young lion Simba, the heir of his father, Mufasa. Simba’s wicked uncle, Scar, plots to usurp Mufasa’s throne by luring father and son into a stampede of wildebeests. But Simba escapes, and only Mufasa is killed. Simba returns as an adult to take back his homeland from Scar with the help of his friends Timon and Pumbaa.

The film’s cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Billy Eichner as Timon, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, Keegan-Michael Key as Kamari, Eric Andre as Azizi, Florence Kasumba as Shenzi, John Kani as Rafiki, John Oliver as Zazu, and James Earl James is reprising the role of Mufasa.

Disney has set The Lion King’s release date has been set for July 19th, 2019.
