Director Guillermo del Toro Lists His Favorite Superhero Films

Writer-director Guillermo del Toro is more of a genre director than say a superhero or horror director, he’s able to play in many sandboxes to elevate the material he’s turning into a feature film.

However, Guillermo took to Twitter to reveal an unnumbered list of his favorite superhero movies, which is a decent list to boot.

His own superhero film credits are Blade II, Hellboy, and Hellboy II: The Golden Army. There had been a time where he had been linked to various Marvel projects like Doctor Strange, The Incredible Hulk, The Wolverine, and Thor. Guillmero even had planned on writing/directing Warner Bros’ Justice League Dark movie before stepping away from it. Hellboy III was also something he wanted to make until creator Mike Mignola decided to reboot the franchise entirely.

Hopefully, this is some sign that he might be considering returning to the comic book genre sometime in the future.

Guillermo has been recently announced to be co-directing a stop-motion animation film based on the classic Italian fairytale of Pinocchio for Netflix alongside the wonderful people at The Henson Company.

Other projects that Guillermo had been considering include a remake of the classic Fantastic Voyage for producer and friend James Cameron at 20th Century Fox. That seemingly has been placed on hiatus, that’s if del Toro sticks around to make it. At one time, the plan had been to shoot the film in Toronto with a majority of his production teams from films like Pacific Rim, Crimson Peak, and The Shape of Water.

There is also Disney’s The Haunted Mansion and an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s At The Mountains of Madness he’s been trying to get made for almost a decade (another project with James Cameron eyeing a producing role).
