It looks like Dune has found another villain as TheHollywoodReporter has revealed that Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgard (Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) will play the film’s main villain, Baron Harkonnen.
Skarsgard will play one of the villains of the piece, Baron Harkonnen, whose family previously ruled Arrakis and has a long hatred of the Atreides family, plotting with the galactic emperor to destroy it. He is also the uncle to the brutish character to be played by Bautista.
Dave Bautista was recently announced as playing his nephew Rabban Harkonnen, another villain seeking to exterminate House Atreides. Rabban is a military leader and takes pleasure in killing the enemies of his uncle.
Set on the planet Arrakis, we find ourselves exploring the story of two warring galactic royal families House Atreides and House Harkonnen. When Duke Leto Atreides is assassinated, his son Paul and wife Lady Jessica escape only to be adopted by the Fremen, who becomes Paul’s personal army against the Harkonnen as he develops powers from the spice, a substance that extends life and powers interstellar travel. A tangled web of royal intrigue is revealed with the Emperor and other cosmic powers pulling the strings while attempting to erase house Atreides.
The outlet also confirms our previous reporting that film will shoot scenes in Jordan.
Filming begins this March at Origo Film Studios in Budapest, Hungary the same location used to film Blade Runner 2049.
Legendary Pictures has yet to announce an official release date for Dune.
