While answering fan questions on Instagram during a Q&A, actor Sly Stallone has revealed that a sequel to his science fiction film Demolition Man is in development stages at Warner Bros., but didn’t give too many details other than it is happening.
STALLONE: “Can we get another [Demolition] Man?”
“We’re working on it right now with Warner Brothers and it’s looking fantastic. So, that should come out, that is going to happen.”
Demolition Man saw Stallone paired with newcomer Sandra Bullock and Wesley Snipes playing one of the better action film villains with Simon Phoenix.
DEMOLITION MAN – With innocent victims caught in the crossfire in Los Angeles’ intensifying war on crime, both cop John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone) and violent thug Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) are sentenced to a state of frozen incarceration known as “CryoPrison.” When Spartan is finally thawed 36 years later, it’s 2032, and Los Angeles is now a pacifist utopia called San Angeles. But with Phoenix again on the loose, Spartan must team up with future cop Lenina Huxley (Sandra Bullock) to apprehend the killer.
The original film didn’t set the world on fire but ultimately it’s future setting predicted a lot of technology that we’re using today, outside of the three seashells. Demolition Man is one of the better Stallone and Wesley Snipes films from the 1990s.
There plenty of room to explore a sequel given that we haven’t really seen what the world looks like outside of Los Angeles. I’d also love to see Sandra Bullock return as Huxley.
Considering Stallone’s interest in returning to older properties it would make sense to do something with Demolition Man if he’s been trying to convince Kurt Russell to make a Tango & Cash sequel.
