It looks like there are some surprises still ahead for Pokemon fans concerning who will be showing up in their first live-action feature film.
A new rumor coming from RevengeOfTheFans suggests that comedian and Deadpool 2 scene-stealer Rob Delany may have an undisclosed role in Legendary’s Detective Pikachu starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular Pokemon. Delany appeared a cast list during the film and yet has yet to be announced by Legendary as being part of the official cast.
According to a well-connected source, Delaney is on the official cast list- and has been there since the project was still operating under the code name “Gumshoe.” The reason it’s interesting that he’s been on the list for so long is that he’s one of the only names not yet revealed.
Although Delany’s role isn’t named in the report and it could be as simple as a voiceover or brief cameo. I talked with a couple of people who have seen the film and Rob doesn’t seem to have shown up as himself, leading to the theory he may be playing a Pokemon.
However, the only other Pokemon that speaks in the film according to sources is Mewtwo.
Detective Pikachu will be released on May 10th.
The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.
