David Leitch (Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Hobbs and Shaw) recently spoke with ScreenRant while promoting Hobbs and Shaw, and revealed he would be interested in directing Marvel’s Blade movie which has Mahershala Ali set to play the new Blade.
Leitch revealing one of his first stunt jobs was in the Bloodbath club scene from the original 1998 film.
LEITCH: “I love Blade. And it’s actually one of the first stunt jobs that I was in, the original Wesley Snipes one. I was a stunt performer in that movie. I was in the blood club. You remember that scene? Yes, dancing around in the recycled special effects blood. It was great.”
“Mahershala is such a great actor, and I’ve been fortunate to work with some great actors, and I never go wrong that way. Having him play that role is a big deal and would be really exciting. So, yeah, I would love to have that conversation.”
It should be noted that David and Chad Stahelski did some second unit directing on Captain America: Civil War.
As far as we know, Blade is expected to be coming for Phase 5 given the big casting announcement at San Diego Comic-Con. However, Kevin Feige didn’t name writers or a director.
