It’s still unbelievable that Brad Pitt and Paramount were able to convince David Fincher to return to tentpole filmmaking with the World War Z sequel after his horrid experience working on Alien3 for 20th Century Fox, only to be thrown under the bus by producers when the sequel failed to meet studio expectations. Fincher was approached by the studio after former director J.A. Bayona left to make Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom.
Well, it looks like it’s full steam ahead on the action horror project after multiple delays.
We’ve now learned that one of the production spaces expected to be used is Pinewood Atlanta Studios, one of the big production facilities in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Other projects shot at Pinewood Atlanta Studios include Passengers, Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2, Ant-Man, Ant-Man, and The Wasp, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers 4, and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Filming on the untitled World War Z sequel is said to begin next summer starting in June.
Paramount and Fincher had been previously looking at shooting some of the globe-trotting project in London, that could still be one of the many locales.
Industrial Light and Magic will be handling the effects on the film with Oscar-winner Eric Barba taking the role of visual effects supervisor. Eric’s credits include Zodiac, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Gone Girl, The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo, Tron: Legacy, and Oblivion. His latest project is Tim Miller’s upcoming Terminator movie which is also at Paramount Pictures.
A release date has yet to be made official by Paramount, but World War Z 2 dropping in the summer of 2020 is a good bet to make.
When former U.N. investigator Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) and his family get stuck in urban gridlock, he senses that it’s no ordinary traffic jam. His suspicions are confirmed when, suddenly, the city erupts into chaos. A lethal virus, spread through a single bite, is turning healthy people into something vicious, unthinking and feral. As the pandemic threatens to consume humanity, Gerry leads a worldwide search to find the source of the infection and, with luck, a way to halt its spread.
