While director Matt Reeves hasn’t officially confirmed Colin Farrell as the new Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin, there are plenty of reports to support that he has landed the gig.
We haven’t seen the Batman villain on the big screen since Tim Burton’s Batman Returns with Danny Devito in the role.
Fandango got to speak with Danny recently during the promotion for his upcoming movie Jumanji: The Next Level and gives a ringing endorsement for his Dumb co-star taking over the part.
DEVITO: “Yeah, he’s gonna do the Penguin. I think it’s a great thing, the Penguin is a great part. Oswald Cobblepot is many, many laters, It’s a very, very difficult task. But I think, many people have played King Lear or Hamlet, I don’t think Oswald should be any different. I think everybody should get a crack at him.”
“I think Colin is a terrific actor and I can’t wait to see the twists and turns.”

We’re hopeful that Colin will get confirmed soon as shooting on The Batman is expected to begin (under the working title Vengeance) next year at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Watford, England.
The rest of the cast includes Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne aka Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle aka Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton aka The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Andy Serkis (will be directing Venom 2 at the same facility) as Alfred Pennyworth.
Peter Sarsgaard (Jarhead, Green Lantern) and newcomer Jayme Lawson have undisclosed roles as well.
Matt Reeves (Dawn of The Planet of The Apes, Cloverfield) is directing from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin.
It’s expected to be the first installment of Reeves’ new trilogy.
The Batman will be released by Warner Bros. on June 25th, 2021.
You can see Danny in Jumanji: The Next Level on December 13th.
