Deadline has breaking news concerning the Marvel Studios series Falcon and The Winter Soldier, as Captain America: Civil War actors Daniel Bruhl and Emily VanCamp will reprise their roles of villain Baron Helmut Zemo and ally Agent Sharon Carter in the Disney+ series. They also report that the 6-part series will be directed by Kari Skogland and will begin airing in August 2020.
Kari Skogland has been set to direct the 6 part Disney+ mini-series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, with Avengers: Endgame‘s Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan starring. Sources said Captain America: Civil War‘s Daniel Bruhl and Emily Van Camp are also in talks to join. The miniseries will air August, 2020.
Kari Skogland’s credits include The Handmaid’s Tale, Boardwalk Empire, The Walking Dead, Penny Dreadful, Vikings, The Americans, and The Punisher.
The limited series will star Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson with Sebastian Stan returning as Bucky Barnes in a co-starring role, Stan recently revealed during a fan Q&A panel in Rome, Italy that filming would begin sometime in October.
Empire’s Malcolm Spellman is writing Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
It’ll be interesting to see how Zemo factors into the miniseries and what other villains we could be getting. Kevin Feige has previously announced the shows would be directly connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will have ramifications in future films.
Other Disney+ MCU series on the way include Loki, WandaVision, and a Hawkeye series featuring Kate Bishop.
